About Us

Nice to meet you!

Hi! we are Leora and Brandon Koons.

Scuba Hounds is a one-stop website for scuba divers and snorkelers. You will find professional tips and tricks to become better in the water, scuba-related travel guides, and get the best recommendations for gear and equipment. Scuba Hounds was founded on our passion and love for the ocean, and we hope to spread those feelings far and wide.

We are both certified scuba instructors and together have taught hundreds of students how to scuba dive. Between the two of us, we have worked in 5 different countries, teaching everything from first-timers doing trial experiences to certifying rescue divers. As well as our time teaching, we have had the opportunity to dive in 20 different countries and counting. We met while doing our scuba instructor training in Utila, Honduras. You could say it was love at first dive site!

Brandon

I’m from Colorado, which oddly enough has the most scuba divers per capital in the U.S. I have always loved the natural world and try to learn about the plants and animals in my area. My degree in Horticulture. Yeah, I’m a total plant nerd, but am always drawn back to the ocean. I began instructing scuba in Hawaii, where I learned a lot about the scuba diving industry and underwater life. My goal is to show others how to respect the ocean, and spread the joy that it brings me.

Leora

I grew up in Scotland, and have always dreamed of traveling the world. My first dive job was in the country of Jordan where I taught courses and guided dives in the Red Sea. I speak English, French, some Spanish, and a pinch of Arabic. I love connecting with people from all cultures and walks of life. I’m passionate about the underwater world and helping people explore it in a safe and considerate way.

What’s up! I’m a coconut retriever from the US Virgin Islands, where I grew up on the streets of St Thomas. Conditions were rough, I got pretty sick, and nobody would adopt me. Then my two walking treat dispensers came along. They scooped me up, lied about my weight to the airlines, and now I’m livin’ the dream eating pup cups and going on adventures. They still have never taught me how to scuba dive, but I guess that’s because I’m a fierce predator and they’re all about conserving marine life.

  • Favorite treat: Banana
  • Favorite thing to do: Swimming with my best friend, Bella
  • Best nap spot: Anywhere in the sun
  • Favorite animal: Squirrel!
